Brussels says ‘Yes’ to Turkish entry talks

On the basis of a comprehensive report assessing progress on human rights, democracy, the rule of law and the protection of minorities, the European Commission recommended on 6 October 2004 that accession talks begin with Turkey. A final decision on whether and when to begin talks will be taken at the European Council on 17 December 2004.
