Jörg Haider, the influential governor of Austria's Carinthia province, has demanded significant amendments to the federal government's controversial pensions reforms as the price for his support. Mr Haider, who has withdrawn from federal politics but remains the driving force behind the ultra right-wing Freedom party, the junior partner in the federal coalition government, said concessions had to be made to workers in physically taxing jobs such as mining and steel.
