Press Release: Germany: Europe rapidly needs a Commission capable of acting

European Commission President-designate José Manuel Barroso postponed a vote in the European Parliament to confirm his newly chosen Commission. Chancellor Gerhard Schröder warned against the emergence of a dispute between European institutions, saying that this would be of considerable detriment to the European Union. In a comment made on 27.10.2004 with regard to the events in the European Parliament Schröder said: 'We need a strong Commission capable of acting'
