Members of three European Parliament committees took part in a public hearing with outside experts on 30 November 2004 to discuss proposals to overhaul the EU sugar market. The key issue was how to reconcile the divergent interests of sugar farmers in Europe and the developing world while meeting WTO rules which will soon require cuts in traditional EU subsidies. |
