Press Release: Germany: The EU needs a strong Commission

Chancellor Gerhard Schröder promised the President-designate of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, the support of the German government, noting that a strong Commission is in Germany's interests in terms of being able to deal with the challenges of the future. He said a precondition for this is strong backing of the new Commission by the European Parliament
