A network that aims to make it easier to deal with criminals who have sheltered their illicit profits abroad was launched, in September 2004, at a congress hosted by the European Police Office (Europol). The Camden Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network (CARIN) is an initiative of the Dutch and Belgian Confiscation Bureaus (BOOM) and (COSC) in co-operation with Ireland, UK, Austria, Eurojust and later on Germany. The presidency of CARIN will be shared between Belgium and The Netherlands, and the permanent secretariat will be based at Europol. |
