The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) has been strongly criticised for the lack of real communication between fishermen, scientists and environmental interests generally. Dermot Ahern, the Irish Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, stated on 23 May 2004, that he hoped to secure agreement for the establishment of new regional management structures for European fisheries at the European Council of Fisheries Ministers, which was due to take place in Brussels the following day. |
