Lead continues to affect children's brains in parts of Europe, putting their development at risk. New research being carried out by WHO and the University of Udine (Italy) focuses on the burden of disease in children caused by chemicals and other environmental factors, such as indoor and outdoor air pollution, water and injuries. Early findings were released 25 March 2004 in Malta on the occasion of the final negotiations with countries prior to the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health to be held in Budapest, Hungary, from 23 to 25 June 2004.
