Turkey seeks support from Germany

The German Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, arrived in Turkey on 22 February 2004 for a three-day visit where he is expected to discuss Turkey's aim of joining the European Union. Germany's position is seen as crucial to the European Union's decision, due in December 2004, on whether to open membership talks with Ankara.
