A majority of Member States have backed UK proposals to make quarterly reporting for listed companies optional in the draft Directive on Transparency. There has been widespread opposition to the Commission's proposal to require listed European Union companies to produce summary financial reports on a quarterly basis. The Commission believes quarterly reporting would provide greater investor protection.
