Backing for trade lawsuit against EU

The Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice issued an Opinion on 15 May 2003 backing the right of French company Biret to sue the European Union for damages because of its failure to implement a World Trade Organisation ruling against its ban on hormone-treated beef. If the Court upholds the Opinion, the recommendation could make it easier for people to bring legal actions against the EU for failing to comply with the WTO obligations.
