EU green light for Scots Gaelic

A new agreement signed in October 2009 means Gaelic can now be used formally in meetings between Scottish government ministers and European Union (EU) officials.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Brussels on the 7 October 2009 by the UK Permanent Representative to the EU, Sir Kim Darroch, and the Scottish Government. It establishes the technical arrangements between the UK Government and the Scottish Government to allow Scottish Gaelic to be used within EU institutions.
