UN warns of Roma plight

A report on the situation of Roma people living in Central and Eastern Europe (CEEE) says that their living conditions are closer to those in sub-Saharan Africa than to Europe. The United Nations Development Programme, who prepared the report, have called on five CEEE countries who are due to join the EU in 2004 to do more to help the Roma people.
