The UK Minister for Europe, Denis MacShane, welcomed Turkey's signature of Protocol 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights on 16 January 2003. Turkey's signature of this Protocol is an important milestone towards its full compliance with the Copenhagen Political Criteria and the journey towards EU membership.
