After cracking its hull in a storm on 13 November 2002 an oil tanker named Prestige is threatening ecological disaster to 100 miles of Spain's northwestern coastline. The European Commission has asked Britain and Greece to provide details of any safety checks on the vessel at the ports of Gibraltar and Kalamata.
