Proposals for a new post of European Council President put forward by the United Kingdom and France have been dealt a blow by Denmark which took over the rotating Presidency of the European Union on 1 July 2002. Denmark believes, along with some other Member States, that creating such a position would be to the benefit of larger Member States and the detriment of smaller Members.
