Brown stamps authority on euro decision

The UK Chancellor, Gordon Brown, announced on 26 June 2002 plans for a Treasury research programme to back a 'decisive' assessment of his five economic tests. At least ten studies in areas such as the housing market and labour mobility will accompany the assessment, suggesting an early decision on whether or not the UK will join the single currency is unlikely.
