Plan to ease car showroom curbs

Under controversial plans expected to be approved by the European Commission in mid-July 2002, car dealers will be able to open showrooms anywhere in the European Union from October 2004. Currently, car manufacturers choose their dealers and restrict them to specific geographic areas (the 'location clause').
