Europe has taken a step towards tackling the chaos and congestion in the skies, with the European Parliament endorsing proposals for a unified air traffic control system at its plenary session in Strasbourg, 3 September 2002. It is hoped that a so-called 'single European sky' can be created by the end of 2004.
