On 1 August 2002 the US Senate endorsed the decision by the US House of Representatives to grant Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) to the US President. Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), formerly known as fast track, is a grant of constitutional authority from the Congress to the Administration: Congress commits itself to holding a timely up-or-down vote, with no amendments, to legislation implementing the results of trade agreements (multilateral/regional/bilateral) that require changes to US law. The adoption of TPA bill will inject impetus in the on-going Doha Development Agenda negotiations on course for completion by the 1 January 2005 deadline.
