The European Commission decided on 27 June 2002 to pursue infringement proceedings against six European Union countries - Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Sweden - for failing to implement legislation requiring financial transparency within public service companies. The legislation calls for the separation of accounts of companies which have commercial activities whilst being also under public service obligations for which they get state financing. |
