A 24-hour strike by Greek rail workers on the 10 June 2010 closed train services round the country. Workers at OSE, the lossmaking state-controlled railway organisation, staged the walk-out to protest against the government’s plan to sell 49 per cent of TrainOSE, the network operator.

The rail privatisation would launch a three-year programme of disposals agreed under the terms of Greece’s €110bn bail-out by the eurozone and the International Monetary Fund.
