Oliver Letwin, the UK Shadow Home Secretary, said on 10 October 2001 that European law is allowing terrorist suspects wanted by other governments to remain in Britain. Mr Letwin urged the UK government to pass new laws urgently to allow the removal of suspects and blamed the incorporation of the European Convention of Human Rights into domestic law for staying the government's hand.
