Report of the 6th Conference of the Parties on climate change in Bonn, where there was dispute on the role of carbon sinks, such as forests, in the process of tackling climate change. Canada, Japan and Russia want their forests to be considered in their respective targets for curbing greenhouse emissions. The EU opposes this idea because of the uncertain long-term effects of carbon sinks and the reduced incentive to cut the use of fossil fuels.
