The European Commission on 20 July 2001 published its 'Employment in Europe 2001' report, which presents an analysis of the main trends and outlook for employment in the EU and the candidate countries against the background of the new targets for employment set by the Lisbon and Stockholm summits. The report says that employment performance of the EU improved significantly in 2000 as employment grew by 1.8% on top of the 1.6% in 1999. However, it also notes that some sectors are still dominated by one gender (occupational segregation), and it is even widening in traditional occupations.
