Pascal Lamy, European Commissioner for Trade, attended the 3rd Asia Europe Meeting of Economic Ministers (ASEM EMM3) in Hanoi (Vietnam) on 10-11 September 2001. He met political leaders and representatives of the business communities of several Asian countries during his visit to both Vietnam and Singapore. Bilateral and multilateral meetings considered ways of enhancing economic relationships between the two regions and Commissioner Lamy continued to canvass support for the launch of a new round of trade negotiations later in 2001 in Doha (Qatar). He also looked into prospects for WTO accession of certain Asian partners. |
