Press Release: Commission adopts new proposal on taxation of cross-border savings income

The European Commission presented an amended proposal for a Directive to ensure effective taxation of cross-border interest payments to individuals within the European Union on 18 July 2001. Under the amended proposal, each Member State would ultimately be expected to provide information to other Member States on interest paid from that Member State to individual savers resident in other Member States.
