On 14 June 2001, Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission, and Swedish Prime Minister, Göran Persson, the current President of the European Council, met US President Bush in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was the first EU-US Summit since the new US Administration took office. On 15 June Mr Bush met EU Heads of State and Government participating in the European Council in Gothenburg.
