On 19 March 2001 the European Commission agreed to formally adopt the special market measures for cattle older than 30 months (see IP/01/302). Carcasses of animals which belong to categories not eligible for intervention purchases, which are more than 30 months of age and which have all been tested negatively for BSE will be covered. The scheme shall be applied immediately in those Member States which have demonstrated full testing capacity for cattle older than 30 months provided there is a weak market for cows. It may equally be applied in the other Member States if there is a weak market for cows. The special measures under the new scheme shall apply until the end of 2001. |
