The European Commission has decided to refer Germany to the European Court of Justice because it considers the German Packaging Regulation 1998 ('Verpackungsverordnung 1998') does not comply with the Packaging Waste Directive and Community rules on free trade. In the Commission's view, the German re-use scheme for packaging waste imposes an unfair burden on producers of natural mineral waters that import their products over long distances. |
