On 28.2.01 the European Commission made a recommendation to the Council on the 2000 updated Stability Programme of Belgium, which was presented on 22.12.00 and covers the period 2001-2005. The conclusion of the Commission was that the updated programme is in line with the requirements of the Stability and Growth Pact and is consistent with the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines. On the basis of the Commission recommendation, the Council is expected to adopt a formal opinion on the stability programme of Belgium in March 2001.
