Abstract:

This annual review outlines developments in family law in 29 countries. Contributors to the book are members of the International Society of Family Law as well as other leading academics and family law experts. There are four contributions from countries that have previously not appeared in the survey: Costa Rica, Jordan, Estonia and Kenya.

The book begins with a look at international trends and developments in family law for the last year. This is followed by articles on individual countries that include: Family Law Reforms in Austria from 1992 to 1999 (Austria); Court Decisions on Same Sex and Unmarried Partners, Spousal Rights and Children (Canada); The Childhood and Adolescence Code 1998 (Costa Rica); Civil Law Marriages without Legal Consequences (Germany); Family Property Division and Domestic Violence (Jamaica); Capacity, Consent and Under-Age Marriage in Muslim Family Law (Jordan); Joint Custody, Special Representative for Children and Cohabitees' Property; Child Support Guideline Review (USA). The book also reviews family law issues of current significance in England, Wales, Scotland Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The International Society of Family Law aims to facilitate and study discussion by sponsoring and promoting international co-operation in research on family law topics world-wide.
