The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party proposed in February 2018 removing a clause from the country’s constitution which limited the presidency and vice presidency to two five-year terms. Commentators noted that by removing this restriction would allow current President Xi Jinping to be 'President for Life'. The 13th National People's Congress (NPC), Beijing, 5 March 2018 was asked to approve these and other amendments to the Constitution of China. A further amendment would incorporate Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the Constitution. |
