Widening scandal prompts EU to seek DNA testing of meat

EurActiv and other news sources reported that the European Commission proposed on the 13 February 2013 increased DNA testing of meat products to assess the scale of a scandal involving horsemeat sold as beef that had shocked the public and raised concern over Europe's food supply chains. A EU ministerial meeting was held in Brussels to discuss the affair.
