Transport plays a prominent economic role because it conveys: The main cornerstone for future EU transport policy is the 2011 EU White Paper entitled 'Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area - Towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system'. As a result, EU transport statistics have diversified - while maintaining the current coverage and quality of existing data collections, attempts are being made to produce statistical data which address the underlying issues and make it easier to model them. The data feature several aspects: Three different measurement types Six different transport modes Most of the data collections are based on legislation applied by EU Member States, European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and some candidate countries.
