The global financial crisis has had a major impact in the EBRD's countries of operations in Central and Eastern Europe. Responding to the challenging conditions that have put a strain on economies across the region, the EBRD's 2009 Business Plan and Budget allows for an increase of about 20% in the Bank’s annual business volume in 2009 to approximately €7 billion. Half of the €1 billion in extra spending is earmarked for central and eastern Europe. The Bank’s response will look to support the banking sectors in the countries where the EBRD invests and to ensure that financing flows continue, in particular to small and medium sized enterprises. The EBRD will also extend its support to the broader corporate sector. |
