Media sources revealed on 16 December 2015 that the European Commission's Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) had launched an investigation into Germany's car company Volkswagen.

According to the reports, the company was suspected of having misappropriated funds from the European Union awarded for research and development (R&D) purposes.

Earlier in the year, the same company had been accused of manipulating its car emissions tests.
