Terrorist incidents in the United Kingdom in 2017 A van driven collided with several people at a Muslim mosque at Finsbury Park, London in the early hours of 19 June 2017. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and ten injured. Three attackers killed seven people and injured 48 others in London Bridge in the evening of the 3 June 2017. The attackers were shot by armed police officers. Twenty two people, including children, were killed and 59 injured in a suspected suicide attack at Manchester Arena at the end of a pop concert on the 22 May 2017. This incident followed an earlier terrorist attack in Westminster, London on the 22 March 2017.A terrorist incident was declared at Parsons Green underground station in west London on the 15 September 2017 after an explosion in a tube carriage. 29 people were treated for injuries. Policie said that a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was thought to be responsible for the explosion. Later on the 15 September 2017 United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May announced the decision by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre to raise the national threat level from severe to critical. This meant that in the assessment of the JTAC a further attack might be imminent. This would allow for greater military support to the police. So-called Islamic State claimed it was behind the attack. An 18-year-old man was detained at the port of Dover on the 16 September 2017 on suspicion of a terror offence over the Parsons Green explosion. A second man, 21 years old, was arrested in London on the 17 September 2017. The UK terror threat level was lowered to severe on the 17 September 2017. |
