The Dutch presidency of the Council of the European Union announced on 17 March 2016 it had reached an informal agreement with the European Parliament on the revision of the directive concerning technical requirements for inland waterway vessels. The proposal aims to provide for the application of uniform standards for inland navigation across Europe. Such standards were set to be developed by the European Committee for drawing up standards in the field of inland navigation (CESNI), set up under the auspices of the Central Commission for Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) in June 2015. Once the standards were set up by CESNI, they would be incorporated into EU law through this draft law. |
