Ukraine ‘to scrap’ anti-protest law

The Ukrainian presidency reported in the evening of the 27 January 2014 that President Yanukovych and opposition leaders had agreed to scrap recently adopted anti-protest laws that had fuelled anger at the government in Kyiv and other cities.

Deutsche Welle and other sources reported on the 28 January 2014 that the Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov had resigned.

In a special session, Ukraine's parliament (Verkhovna Rada) has voted overwhelmingly to annul controversial anti-protest legislation on the 28 January 2014.
