Media reports in January 2016 suggested the ceasefire deal between Ukrainian authorities and pro-Russian rebels in Eastern Ukraine could be in danger, following renewed military movements which led to a resurgence of violence. Earlier, on 30 December 2015, leaders from the Normandy Group expressed the wish for the Minsk agreement to be fully implemented in 2016, therefore extending its deadline. Alexander Zakharchenko, leader of the rebels in Donetsk, rejected any intervention of an external peacekeeping mission on the field. Later in the month, Ukainian authorities reported that a cyber attack on Kyiv's main airport had been launched from a server in Russia, forcing the defenses of government computer systems to be reviewed. |
