In December 2014 the United Kingdom government issued a policy paper 'Government action on antisemitism'. It suggested that the government had done much to establish Britain as a safer place for Jewish people. Levels of antisemitism in the UK were significantly lower than in other Western European countries, it was claimed. However, in January 2015 Campaign Against Anti-Semitism issued the results of two opinion polls in a report called 'Annual Antisemitism Barometer 2015 Full Report'. The CAA suggested that the results revealed both the scale of antisemitic sentiment in Britain, and its effect on the increasingly-threatened British Jewish population. The UK must redouble its efforts to 'wipe out anti-Semitism', Home Secretary Theresa May said on the 18 January 2015. A further report outlining a rise in anti-semitic attacks in the UK in 2014 was published by the Community Security Trust in February 2015. |
