UK referendum campaign suspended after MP shot dead ‘by man shouting Britain first’

Jo Cox, 41, the United Kingdom Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was killed on the 16 June 2016 after she was shot and stabbed in an attack in her constituency.

Vote Leave and Remain both suspended campaigning in the EU referendum in light of the attack, and UK Prime Minister cancelled taking part in a referendum campaign rally in Gibraltar.

Some reports suggested that the alleged killer had called out 'Britain first' or 'Put Britain First' but this was disputed by others.
