EUObserver and other news sources report on a letter from a group of United Kingdom (UK) Conservative Party Members of Parliament (MPs)sent to the UK Prime Minister in January 2014. The letter stated that the House of Commons should be able to block new EU legislation and repeal existing measures that threaten Britain's 'national interests'. However, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague rejected their demand on the 12 January 2014 saying it would make the single market unworkable. The ideas proposed by the MPs were first put forward by the House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee in December 2013. |
