Tusk tour focuses on frozen conflicts

European Council president Donald Tusk visited the Caucasus region in July 2015, holding meetings with the authorities of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Mr Tusk focused on frozen conflicts and ongoing issues hitting the region.

During his meeting with Armenia's president Serzh Sargsyan, Mr Tusk addressed the tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, urging dialogue at the highest level to take place between Armenia and Azerbaijan on this matter.

In Azebaijan, the Council's president made reference to the human rights situation in the country, and also to the South Gas Corridor project which plans to bring the country's natural to the rest of Europe.

While in Georgia, Mr Tusk criticised Russia's decision to move border signposts further into South Ossetia's territory. The Council president reassured Georgian authorities of European Union's commitmment to solve the conflict and to support Georgia's territorial integrity.
