Troika-imposed privatisation plan leaves Cyprus in the dark

Rolling power cuts took place throughout the Republic of Cyprus on the 25 February 2014 as part of protest measures by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) against government plans to privatise semi-governmental organisations, as agreed with the Troika of lenders.

The Cypriot Parliament voted down the roadmap for privatisations - a condition of the country's international bailout - in a vote on the 27 February 2014.

The Cyprus Mail and other news sources reported on the 5 March 2014 that the Cypriot parliament approved on the 4 March 2014 the controversial bill on privatisations.
