Negotiators from 12 countries around the Pacific Ocean reached an agreement on 5 October 2015 regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership, seen as one of the most relevant trade liberalisation pacts ever signed.

The countries concerned were: Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, United States, Vietnam, Chile, Brunei, Singapore and New Zealand,

Analysts considered that the signing of such agreement would bring the spotlights back on the TTIP, the proposed equivalent trade agreement between the European Union and the United States.
