Report of a EurActiv interview with Geoffrey van Orden, a leading Conservative MEP, September 2009.

He said that the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) hoped that Czech President Václav Klaus and his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski would not sign their Lisbon Treaty ratifications, preventing the EU's reform treaty from entering into force until a general election in the UK in the first half of 2010.

If the Conservative Party wins that election, they have promised to hold a referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon if it had still not been ratified by all Member States.
