Following the collapse of the Czech government of Mirek Topolanek on the 24 March 2009, Mr Topolanek siad on the 31 March 2009 that he might have to step down and that his centre-right government could be replaced by a temporary administration of technocrats. BBC News reported on the 5 April 2009 that leaders of the Czech Republic's main political parties had agreed to form an interim cabinet with Jan Fischer proposed as caretaker prime minister to lead the country until elections expected in October 2009. |
