On the 16 December 2016, the European Union deplored the violence in Kasese district, which culminated in the incidents of 27 November 2016, resulting in the reported loss of lives of more than 100 civilians and members of the security forces. The European Union noted the follow-up by the authorities, and the investigations being carried out by the Parliamentary Defence and Internal Affairs Committee and the Uganda Human Rights Commission.The European Union encouragesd full investigations in a timely, inclusive and transparent manner, according to due process and the rule of law. The EU also stressed the importance in addressing the root causes of conflict by all concerned through dialogue. |
